What's that construction on E. John Sims in Niceville? A new Aldi grocery store!
NICEVILLE — City documents indicate a new Aldi grocery store is coming to Niceville.
The proposed 20,442-square-foot grocery store will be at 2030 John Sims Parkway, nestled on a 2.07-acre lot between Wendy's and Jim 'N Nick's barbecue restaurant, according to documents filed with the Niceville Planning Commission.
Ongoing site work will result in a section of Marc Smith Boulevard to be rerouted a short distance to the north, temporarily blocking off the rear entrances to the neighboring eateries. However, planning documents indicate those entrances will be reopened when construction is complete to allow access to all three businesses from both John Sims Parkway and Marc Smith Boulevard.

Aldi representatives weren't immediately available Tuesday to discuss the planned opening date of the grocery store.
Consistently named a "value leader" among U.S. grocery stores, more than 90% of the products stocked on Aldi shelves are exclusive company brands.
"Aldi exclusive brands allow us to provide the same high-quality product without passing on all of the hidden costs associated with the national brands, such as marketing and advertising," according to the company's website.
It continues, "At our core, we are different by design. We are private-label trailblazers, and our company is built on these basic principles: simplicity matters, we sell the best food at low prices, and everything we do is purposefully designed to save people money."
With more than 2,000 stores across 37 states, Aldi is on track to become the third-largest grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022, according to the retailer.
Aldi announced in February that it will open about 100 new locations nationwide in 2021, with a focus on Florida, Arizona, California and the Northeast.
According to the company's website, Aldi has 182 locations in Florida, with the vast majority of them are in Central and South Florida. However, Aldi appears poised to increase its Panhandle presence in a big way.
In February, Aldi broke ground on a 564,000-square-foot distribution center in Loxley, Alabama. Aldi also announced last winter that the new regional headquarters building and distribution center in Baldwin County will be equipped to service Aldi stores in the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, southern Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana.
