Fort Walton Beach man killed in shooting; Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office investigating
A 48-year-old man from Fort Walton Beach was shot and killed inside of a work truck on Vincent Street Wednesday.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls around 7 p.m. Wednesday from residents in the neighborhood who had reportedly heard sounds of gunfire, and some advised deputies that a man had been shot, according to a press release from OCSO.
Responding deputies found the victim, identified as Earnest Riggs Jr., inside of a Chevrolet rental work truck parked in the street. Two workers who had been in the truck during the shooting stayed on scene, while two others reportedly fled.
The victim had reportedly been in the neighborhood that evening because someone was inquiring about a bid on concrete work.
Residents told investigators a man dressed in black had been walking around the area for an hour or more before the shooting took place, OCSO reported. The Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain photos of a possible suspect.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for any information in reference to the photos or the two workers inside the truck who reportedly fled after the shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at 850-641-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-8477, or through the P3 Tips Mobile application.
