Xiscali returning to Pensacola, will open taqueria on Barrancas Avenue before 2021
Xiscali Mexican Restaurant in Gulf Breeze is branching out to open a fast-service Mexican taqueria before the end of the year in Pensacola.
The former GC Convenience Store & Deli at 1400 Barrancas Ave. will become Xiscali Mexican Taqueria in a matter of weeks, according to owner Reina Medina, who said she and her husband and co-owner Gerardo Solis wanted to get in on all the growth happening west of downtown Pensacola.
"It's a combination of restaurants going in and new apartments there, there's a lot of houses nearby," Medina said Friday. "It seems like there's a lot of traffic, but not in the same way when we were over on Gregory Street. The traffic came through, but it missed us a lot."

Medina and Solis ran the Xiscali that formerly operated on East Gregory Street, just a mile or two north of the Pensacola Bay Bridge's exit into Pensacola, until October 2018. That same year the couple consolidated and opened the Xiscali that's currently running at 348 Gulf Breeze Parkway.
The new taqueria will roll out a simplified, taco-based menu with the same Tex-Mex style recipes and flavors cooked up in the kitchen of Medina's Gulf Breeze sit-down restaurant.
There will be seating inside of the taqueria, but Medina said the new Barrancas taqueria is geared more toward the lunch and on-the-go crowd. She and Solis wanted to develop a concept that serves tacos, quesadillas and other Mexican items quickly, but without sacrificing on the freshness.
"We'll have more weekend food specials, soups like menudo, caldo de res and more," Medina added.
The new restaurant is located directly next door to Kingfisher.
