Jacksonville bid farewell to the Wine Cellar, a landmark Southbank restaurant for 47 years but welcomed its first Huey Magoo's chicken tenders restaurant; First Watch opened its 10th restaurant and Ellianos Coffee Co. plans several more drive-thru only, double-sided, specialty coffee in Northeast Florida.

Huey Magoo's Chicken Tenders opened the first of several Northeast Florida restaurants Oct. 13 in Jacksonville Beach. The restaurant at 3952 3rd St. S. in South Beach Regional shopping center is among 10 planned for the Jacksonville area. The Wine Cellar, a downtown Jacksonville landmark for 47 years, closed its doors permanently Oct. 16. The fine-dining restaurant at 1314 Prudential Drive on the Southbank was the "go-to" for special occasions such as engagements, weddings, promotions, anniversaries and graduations. Ellianos Coffee Co. is expanding its footprint in the Jacksonville area as well as throughout the Southeastern United States. The specialty coffee company is known for serving premium coffee, espresso, smoothies and coffee freezers from unique stan-alone drive-thru-only double-sided kiosks. Kaprao Thai Street Food opened on Oct. 13 at 12486 Beach Blvd. It is the sister restaurant of Karai Ramen Bistro at 14286 Beach Blvd.  Kaprao's menu ranges from appetizers such as curry rangood nachos and Thai fried chicken to entrees such as Kaprao filet tips and Kaprao fried tofu, its online menu shows.

Panera Bread received an Oct. 15 permit to build out a new restaurant at 10 Riverside Ave. in Jacksonville's historic Brooklyn neighborhood. The projected cost is $699,985. It will be near Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi, Chipotle, Mayday Ice Cream and Chop Barbershop. | Read more

First Watch opened its 10th Jacksonville breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant Oct. 25 at Ortega Park, the former Roosevelt Square shopping center. The estimated construction cost of the new 4,282 square-foot restaurant at 4407 Roosevelt Blvd. is $350,000, a city building permit showed. | Read More

Charleys Wings and Philly Steaks Mandarin

The third Northeast Florida location of Charleys Wings and Philly Steaks opened Sept. 29 at 9840 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville's Mandarin neighborhood. The other Charleys locations are at Orange Park Mall, 1910 Wells Road and the Avenues Mall at 10300 Southside Blvd. The San Jose location replaces the former Krystal.

The newest Starbucks in Jacksonville offers both drive-thru and dine-in. It opened Oct. 5 at 5640 San Jose and University Boulevard West in the Lakewood neighborhood of Jacksonville. City building permits issued for the project totaled $795,000 including the cost of demolishing the old Shell gas station formerly at the site.

Peterbrooke Chocolatier celebrated the grand reopening of its newly renovated and redesigned downtown confectionary shop on Oct. 15. It's on the first floor of the VyStar Credit Union building, 100 W. Bay St. The shop had closed temporarily due to extensive building renovations. | Read more

Brass Tacks Coffee Co. opened its third Jacksonville-area coffeehouse Oct. 11 at 119 Bartram Oaks Walk, in Fruit Cove. Its other Jacksonville store is at 4352-01 Southside Blvd. The freshly roasted coffee evolved from the company's "flagship cafe, Spring Park Coffee" at  328 Ferris St., Green Cove Springs, according to the company website. | Read more

Jacksonville couple Cherron Johnson and her husband, Hector Zayas Sr., opened Main Street Food Park on Oct. 9 at 1352 N. Main St. near Fourth Street in historic Springfield. The couple, who own and operate NOLA's Snoballs and Sweets & Savory Eats, renovated an old used car lot into an oasis of family-friendly space, including a rotating array of food trucks, live music and other entertainment, a family activities area, outdoor seating and more. | Read more

Top Dawg Tavern plans to open its first location in Florida in the Shoppes at Bartram Park, 13820 Old St Augustine Road in Jacksonville. Its application for a food service license is under review by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The restaurant is listed for unit 304, according to the shopping center online directory.  The menu includes chicken wings, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, pasta and tacos. Top Dawg Tavern has two locations in Georgia and three in South Carolina, its website shows.
