Pensacola police were investigating vandalism of the Confederate Monument in downtown Pensacola Tuesday morning.
Vandals spray-painted what appears to be "Your Confederate Dead" on one side of the monument and threw a bucket of red paint on another side.
PPD officers appeared to be examining the cameras that are placed in the trees at about 7 a.m.
The controversial monument has been a subject of debate for several years, but has taken on new urgency after the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minnesota police officer. Pensacola City Council is set to vote on whether to remove it or not on July 16.
