A Gulf Breeze man has been arrested for abusing a person over the age of 65 after she found a powdery substance in his bedroom.


Jorma Shores, 31 was arrested Friday and charged with battery and aggregated battery on a person over the age of 65. He was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail with a $107,500 bond, and he was released from custody Saturday.


According to his arrest report, a woman arrived at Gulf Breeze Hospital last week with a swollen head, cut face, carpet burns on her back, and bruises on her left leg, left arm and left hand. She told staff that Shores had attacked her.

The woman’s relationship to Shores was redacted from the report.


Shores' arrest report said that the incident happened at around 8 p.m. Wednesday when the woman found a powdery substance in Shores' bedroom, which enraged Shores.


He grabbed the woman by the throat, pushed her to the ground, and choked and kicked her before he walked away, the report stated.

The woman was in the process of attempting to stand back up when Shores returned carrying a can of pepper spray.


The woman told Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies that Shores sprayed the can’s contents into her eyes, hit her in the head and body, dragged her through the residence by her feet and choked her again until she lost consciousness, the report stated.


When the woman awoke, she saw Shores taking pictures of her.


Eventually, she crawled through the home searching for her cellphone to call 911, but when she was unable to immediately find the phone, she fell asleep from exhaustion.


After awaking for a third time, the woman drove herself to the hospital, according to the report.
