Jeffrey Lamar Brown of Crestview was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a short-barreled rifle, discharge of a firearm in public and resisting arrest without violence.

CRESTVIEW — A 22-year-old man was arrested after he shot a victim in the arm Saturday morning on Gordon Street, lawmen say.

Jeffrey Lamar Brown of Crestview was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a short-barreled rifle, discharge of a firearm in public and resisting arrest without violence.

The victim was taken to the North Okaloosa Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to a press release from the Crestview Police Department.

He declined to pursue charges against the shooter, claiming it was an accident, the release said.

When officers arrived on scene, there were multiple people standing in the roadway, and officers were advised that a white Ford Expedition fled the area.

Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Bay Street, the release said. Before the vehicle stopped, a passenger fled the vehicle with an AK-47-style rifle in hand. The same subject was seen running approximately one block from the traffic stop, and was unarmed.

He was promptly detained by officers and the rifle was found after a K-9 search of the area revealed it had been left in a wooded area.

The driver was detained and the vehicle was seized for processing. Approximately one hour later, the owner of the Ford Expedition reported that the vehicle had been stolen along with the keys.

After officers took the initial call for the stolen vehicle, the owner called back requesting to not pursue charges for the theft of the vehicle.

Brown was taken to Okaloosa County Jail without further incident.
