SHALIMAR — A 36-year-old Shalimar man was arrested after he allegedly stole several pieces of jewelry from his mother to pawn for cash.
According to the victim, Chase O’Neal Shipp stole a three-strand gold bracelet and a diamond necklace. Several other pieces are also missing.
Shipp then pawned the jewelry at a Fort Walton Beach pawn shop receiving $600 over a period of two months, according to the arrest report.
During a welfare check Tuesday afternoon, the suspect ran from deputies into nearby woods, according to a press release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
This sparked a neighborhood search with K9s. Deputies found Shipp several hours later, taking him into custody.
Shipp told deputies he did it “all for heroin.”
He is currently in the Okaloosa County Jail, and no bond has been set.
