LAUREL HILL—Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire Friday night shortly before midnight, on State Road 85 just south of the Dollar General, according to a press release from the Almarante Fire Department.
A resident immediately left the home after being alerted by a smoke detector.
The first arriving chief on scene saw heavy smoke conditions from two sides of the residence.
Based upon a quickly deteriorating situation, more resources were requested, the release said.
Responding units also included Laurel Hill, Dorcas and North Okaloosa fire departments, along with Okaloosa County EMS. Firefighters did not leave the scene of the fire until after 6 a.m. the following morning.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature, according to the fire department.
The residence was a total loss. There were no injuries to people or pets.
