The popular, Massachusetts-based chain opened its first mobile cart location in the upper concourse at Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport on Dec. 23.
FORT WALTON BEACH - Talk about a lesson in symmetry.
Tuesday's announcement from Allegiant Airlines that new routes from Boston to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) would begin May 14 comes right on the heels of the newest addition of a pair of Dunkin' locations in the airport, a storefront in the public part of the terminal and a mobile location in the private, passenger-only concourse area.
It's the first airport cart service for the Massachusetts-based chain, which began a company-wide re-branding in late 2018 from Dunkin’ Donuts to Dunkin, with both VPS locations opening on Dec. 23.
"The reaction from people has been pretty neat to see," said Briana Ellis, who was working at the mobile location on Tuesday morning. "Business has been really good so far and I think people are pretty happy to see this up here ... definitely a lot of questions on how we got (the mobile location) up here."
To get to the second floor of the airport, the mobile location (which looks like a smaller food truck), the airport needed to remove a window and bring the cart in via a crane.
"To have a national chain come in with something new, like this, is pretty amazing," said Airport Director Tracy Stage.
It's not the only new restaurant going in on the concourse — work was underway on a location for locally-owned Slick Mick's Sports Bar & Grill on Tuesday, right next to Dunkin' on the upper concourse. Slick Mick's is expected to open within weeks.
