A man was killed in a Sunday home invasion in Panama City Beach.
A man is dead following a late Sunday shooting in Panama City Beach.
The fatal shooting occurred in the 6400 block of Sunset Drive. Bay County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Jimmy Stanford identified the victim as 30-year-old Kenneth Edward Ross.
Witnesses told deputies that three black males had knocked on the door of the Ross’s home and asked for Ross. The victim’s father said he would find Ross and closed the door, Stanford said.
The men then pushed open the door, entered the home and shot the victim several times, the release said.
"Our information indicates this was not a drug ripoff. These men did not come in and grab anything or take anything," Stanford said. "Once they saw him they began shooting. They met him in the home’s hallway and just opened fire on him."
One of the assailants was described as being 5-foot-6. The other two men were said to be taller.
"We’ve got some people we are looking at stronger than others," Stanford said when asked about possible suspects. "We have no arrest warrants right now."
Officers with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit with Criminal Investigation and Patrol Division personnel as well as with officers from the Panama City and Panama City Beach police departments Stanford said.
Additional details will be released as they become available.
