CRESTVIEW — A 6-year-old boy was transported by air to a Pensacola hospital Saturday after sustaining burns to his arms and chest.
According to Andrew Schneider, spokesman for the Crestview Police Department, the Crestview PD and fire department responded to a home on South Wilson Street at about 1:20 p.m. They found a boy who had been playing with a gas tank.
Schneider said that the boy had apparently found a lighter and lit the tank, where it exploded and burned his arms and chest.
The incident occurred behind the house, while the boy's family was outside in the front yard, Schneider said.
He was transported to Sacred Heart in Pensacola with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
"There's no criminal case on this," Schneider said. "We were just there for support in getting him to the hospital."
