CRESTVIEW — The suspect in Saturday's domestic violence shooting has died of his injuries.

Jayson Daniel Wheat, who was 19, died at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

His victim, whose name is protected as a domestic violence victim, remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police were called to the home on West Bowers Avenue Saturday evening by the victim's mother, who told the dispatcher her daughter had called to say she'd been shot.

When officers arrived, they found the 32-year-old woman crying for help. They also found an uninjured baby, who has since been turned over to family members.

They also found Wheat, who was alive but unresponsive and appeared to have suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He has been on life support for several days, according to Major Andrew Schneider with the Crestview Police Department.
