CRESTVIEW — An Okaloosa County school bus driver was cited for careless driving Thursday after he ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Allen Beaman, 55, of Crestview, was driving the bus south on Dogwood Drive approaching Lake Silver Road north of Crestview. Beaman was traveling too fast for the road conditions and failed to stop at the stop sign.

Beaman traveled into the intersection as a Chevrolet driven by Krista Hunter, 37, of Crestview, was approaching. Beamon swerved to avoid a crash, but the left rear of the bus hit the driver's side door of Hunter's car, the press release said.

The nine children riding the bus were released after the collision. One child suffered a small cut on his nose from hitting the seat in front of him. No other injuries were reported, the FHP said.

Beaman was cited with careless driving for failure to use due care, violation of a traffic light and going too fast for conditions.
