FORT WALTON BEACH — A bus was rear-ended Wednesday morning after suddenly losing power while traveling on State Road 189.

Darryl Tew, 55 of Baker, was driving north at 6 a.m. and was unable to drive fully off the road after the bus stopped accelerating, according to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol.

Jan Skillman, 38 of Cantonment, collided with the left portion of the vehicle's rear end. Skillman's Toyota Corolla continued forward, rotating counter-clockwise and into a grassy ditch.

Tew drove his bus into an entrance way to a vacant lot while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

Skillman said he was unable to notice the bus due to it being night and the bus not having any lights on at the time.

The Florida Highway Patrol did not indicate what kind of bus was involved in the crash.

Neither driver was injured.
