MILTON — Former Santa Rosa County Deputy Jeffery Perkins, 33, was arrested today on two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation by offender over the age of 18 on a victim less than 12 years old.

According to a press release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), an arrest warrant was served for Perkins at the Walton County Jail.

Perkins was arrested last December and charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless display of a firearm, one felony count of aggravated assault-domestic violence and eight felony counts of child pornography. He recently pleaded guilty to 18 counts of child pornography.

The current investigation began in December after the FDLE in Pensacola received information that Perkins had molested a child several years ago.

Perkins had been a Santa Rosa sheriff's deputy dating back to 2010. It was his first and only law enforcement job and he had no disciplinary record. After his first arrest in December 2018, Perkins was placed on administrative leave and was fired four days later by Sheriff Bob Johnson.

“There’s no easy way to put it,” Johnson said at a press release announcing Perkin's firing. “I’ll tell you this much: You know, less than 1 percent of cops in America tarnish their badge, and that’s what we are here to talk about.”

Perkins will remain in Walton County Jail on $1.9 million bond.
