EGLIN AFB — An estimated 12,000 gallons of untreated wastewater overflowed from a pump station today after an electrical control and pump failure.

The incident occurred this morning and afternoon at Building 545 on Range Road. The sewage overflowed onto the ground and made its way to a nearby stormwater ditch, according to a state Department of Environmental Protection report.

Officials stated that an earthen berm was built across the ditch to contain the spilled wastewater, none of which entered a water body. They said the pump is now operational, the system is returning to normal operation and the affected area on land will be treated with lime.
