CRESTVIEW ― Did you hear the one about the guy who went to a pawn shop about a loan for a motorized bicycle and ended up with a pocket full of jewelry? If not, Read on.

The alleged crime happened Sept. 25 at Dan’s Pawn on Main Street. An employee told a Crestview Police Department officer that the 38-year-old Seminole Trail man entered the store that morning to “attempt a a transaction for a loan on a motorized bicycle.

The man was seen on video surveillance grabbing a stack of jewelry lying next to the register and putting it into his pocket. The items were individually packaged in small paper bags and included four rings, one pair of earrings, one bracelet and one chain.

The man then left the shop with the purloined items. This was all captured on video surveillance.

The police officer contacted an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who positively identified the suspect. Lawmen have not been able to find him as of yet.

When he is arrested he’ll be charged with grand theft, as the value of the jewelry was totaled at $3,040.
