CRESTVIEW – It was not a good night for a suspected panhandler who was hanging out at a convenience store that a cop happened to stop at to get a drink.
The Crestview police officer recognized the man as somebody who had been formally ordered to stay away from the store after an employee complained “… he keeps asking people for money and for them to buy him stuff.”
The store manager said, “Take him to jail because this is not the first time,” the officer wrote in the arrest report. She said the suspect had been standing by the door multiple times throughout the day asking people for money. He even asked the manager if she would give him money and buy him items from the store.
The suspect, who is 27 years old and listed a McLaughlin Avenue residence as his address, was charged with trespassing. His court date is Oct. 3.
