CRESTVIEW – A 39-year-old Crestview woman was charged with felony child neglect without great bodily harm after her child was found crossing U.S. Highway 90 unattended.
The Crestview Police Department located the unattended child on Aug. 4 chasing ducks near the pond at Twin Hills Park, according to a Crestview Police Department arrest report. The child was reportedly barefoot, unkempt, dirty and wearing clothes that did not fit.
Officers found the child’s mother in her home and told her the child was found at the park. Officers said the mother did not appear to be concerned. The mother did say she’d been searching for the girl for about an hour.
Officers discovered there have been numerous reports and calls generated by their department demonstrating a continued pattern of lack of parental supervision, dating back to September of 2017.
The distance from the home to the park was approximately 0.9 miles and included crossing U.S. Highway 90.
