CRESTVIEW — A 20-year-old man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a firearm at a convenience store and hiding from police in the bathroom while they say he stowed away 60 grams of marijuana in a trash can.

According to a Crestview Police Department arrest report, on July 25 officers responded to the Tom Thumb on South Ferdon Boulevard after a caller said a man had brandished a gun in front of her and then went to speak to a clerk. When officers arrived, the man ran to the men’s bathroom and hid. He didn’t come out despite officers telling him to come out of the bathroom with his hands up.

The man ultimately surrendered and police were able to handcuff him. In the bathroom, police found several small bags commonly used in the sale of narcotics, as well as 60 grams of marijuana and a firearm that was later determined to be stolen out of Walton County.

The man was taken to jail and charged with using a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of controlled substance with intent to sell and tampering with evidence.
