CRESTVIEW — The Police Department responded to a Tuesday afternoon crash in which a van turned it on its side when its driver allegedly ran a stop light and was struck by a motorist crossing his path on a green turn arrow, according to the Crestview Police Department.
The accident happened around 1:10 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) North and Old Bethel Road when a southbound 2012 Cox Communications van was clipped on its rear passenger side, causing the vehicle to flip over on its driver’s side, a news release said.
The van was struck by an 80-year-old Auburn community resident driving a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis as he executed a left turn lane from Old Bethel Road onto northbound State Road 85 on a green turn arrow.
The van blocked both S.R. 85 southbound lanes after it flipped over.
Two witnesses, one of whom was stopped on Old Bethel Road behind the Grand Marquis, both said the van’s driver ran the red light and drove in front of the Mercury.
The van driver, Logan Byers, 27, of Crestview, was cited for failure to obey a red traffic signal. Alcohol was not considered a factor in the accident and both drivers were wearing their seat belts, the release said.
Okaloosa County EMS responded and assessed both drivers, both of whom declined to be transported to a hospital. However, Mr. Byers later complained of back pain, the release said.
