CRESTVIEW — A man suffered serious injuries after his car crossed a median and hit a tree in Crestview late Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ivan Alexis Irizarry Rios, whose age was not listed in the incident report, was driving his 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage eastbound on U.S. Highway 90 approaching Camellia Ave. just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver crossed the center median, continued across the westbound lane and onto the south shoulder of U.S. Highway 90 before colliding with a tree. The car then became “fully engulfed in flames,” according to FHP.

Warren Fleeman of Freeport, and Colby Bridges of Crestview, two passersby, removed the driver from the burning vehicle, according to the report. He was flown by life-flight helicopter to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with serious injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and Rios was wearing a seatbelt, the FHP report noted.
