CRESTVIEW — Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Crestview was the place to be April 29.

Main Street was packed with vehicles, an unusual sight for the evening hours. Party-goers from as far away as Pensacola attended Latin Night, a dance party which featured music entertainment from DJ Taino. The party went longer than scheduled, as is the case when people are having fun.

Latin Night is an event growing in popularity here in Crestview. Fred Astaire Dance Studio hosts the party every last Friday of the month. With a strong Latin community as well as a large active and retired military presence in Crestview, David Colón, owner of the studio, recognized the need to have a local option for lovers of Latin dance.

“Our community is diverse. Residents of Crestview must drive to Fort Walton Beach or Destin for a night of Latin dancing. Once a month we’re so happy to bring the party to them.”

As the event becomes more popular, the studio will add other events to the monthly calendar. For now, the next Latin Night is 8 p.m. May 27 at the studio, 544 Main St., and will feature live music from the band Tropisound.

“We’re excited to have a live band. We had a great turn out for DJ Taino, and we expect the energy from having live music will draw another great crowd,” Colón said.
