CRESTVIEW — A Crestview High School English teacher really 'shines' in the classroom, and now she has a governor's award to prove it.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott presented six educators with the Governor's Shine Award Jan. 21, when Florida's Cabinet met in Tallahassee.
Lisa Kimbrough, CHS's Teacher of the Year, was among award recipients recognized for exceeding state education standards to help make the learning environment better for their students.
“I feel honored, yet undeserving," she said. "There are so many great educators in Okaloosa County who are surely more worthy than I am for this recognition.”
She added, “I was very honored to meet the governor, attorney general and other cabinet members. It was also very nice to see other awards given for heroism and volunteerism, and to listen to the topics of discussion before the cabinet, such as human trafficking and initiatives in post-secondary educational institutions around the state of Florida.
"It was an amazing experience to be a part of.”
