Through their physical education classes and under guidance of Florosa Elementary School Coach Maureen Byrd, students and families walked or ran laps around the school’s track for donations.


They raised $1,603.29 for the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research. Florosa is the first school in the Okaloosa County School District to make a donation to Pensacola-based Rally Foundation.

Late in October, Rocky Bayou Christian School hosted the FACCS Region One Spelling Bee at Forest Lake Bible Church.


Its school winners included seventh-grade first place, Anil Makhdoomi; eighth-grade first, Paige Finley; and ninth/10th-grade first, Catie Barnes.


Other places were taken by RBCS students Michael Mosley, Skylar Stoffel, Miriam Riches, Gideon Riches and Logan Bourgeois.


These students qualified for the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools state bee Nov. 15.

Also in October, Niceville’s Edge Elementary School Fellowship of Christian Athletes held its Huddle meeting.


Sponsor and fifth-grade teacher Jamie Seifert, who also coaches Choctawhatchee High School swimming, saw a good turnout for the inaugural event. The club organized after students asked Seifert to be their sponsor.

The second session of Cougar Drone Club at Northwood Elementary School in Crestview saw the students programming and flying drones. Some also got inventive in the Makerspace by building a variety of items with magnets and blocks.

Longwood Elementary School in Shalimar recognizes its students of the month in October, for exemplifying the character word of the month, self-discipline: Alan Cabrera-Jimenez, Gage Mashlan, Audrey Basham, Serenity Hagans, Jose Alvarenga Diaz, Roger Tambula, Monica Leynez Rojas and Vinny Garcia Aguilar.
