BAKER — It has been more than a decade since Baker School’s football team started a season 4-0.

It has been so long that longtime Gator assistant coach and former Baker player Brian Wagner can't remember when the team was last undefeated at the point in the season.

The Gators (3-0) are coming off an open date after a 55-6 win over Holmes County. Baker travels to Destin Middle School on Friday to play  Rocky Bayou Christian School in a 7 p.m. game.

The Knights (2-2) have won their last two games and they have the attention of Gator head coach Matt Brunson.

"They are on a two-game winning streak," he said. "Levi Derry (Rocky Bayou's top running back) is a very capable back. They have a very athletic quarterback and their running back is as good as any."

Brunson said the Knights will run a spread offense and line up in a five-man front on defense. Rocky Bayou's size up front is similar to Baker's.

Brunson said the Gator offense will line it up and see if they can knock some holes in the Knight defense.

Although the Baker bye week came earlier in the season than it usually does, it offered a welcome break.

"We got some bumps and bruises well," Brunson said. "We got some stuff done that we needed to work on. I felt overall we kept our regular game routine and just didn't have to get hit on Friday, so our guys should be rested and ready to go."

Brunson's biggest concern Friday night is that Baker will be Baker.

"We just have to get focused and do what we do," he said. "We have to take care of the football, open holes, run downhill and play good defense. We definitely want to keep this thing in the win column.

"Josh Childers (Knight head coach), who I coached there at Crestview for a short time, has done a great job with that program and they are much improved. I just hope we can play the brand and style of football that is Gator football and just do what we do and not turn it over."
