UPCOMING: Kids get their kicks at Twin Hills soccer camp
Heat might have forced the Twin Hills soccer camp into the gym last week, but it didn’t stop the campers from learning and having a good time.
“The kids seem to like,” veteran coach James McDermott said. “As you can see, some of the kids are having a lot of fun.
“It’s going well. Because of the heat, to come inside is great, and I have a feeling we will be in here a lot in the summer. We can work a lot on technique when we are inside.”
The two biggest challenges with moving the camp inside have to do with the space available and the slickness of the gym floor.
“When you are training kids and working with them in a camp it’s nice to have that grass because it slows the ball down,” McDermott said. “If they can control the ball on this surface they will have no problem outside. You could see today they were having a problem controlling the ball because of the surface.”
McDermott hopes to accomplish two things in the camp that runs Monday and Wednesday mornings through July 8.
“The main goal of the camp is for the kids to have a good time and to like soccer,” he said. “The second thing would be to teach them some techniques. Techniques give the child some confidence with ball.
“When you are confident with the ball you are going to have a lot more fun and that’s what we are working on.”
