Bulldogs, Gators ready for Bulletin Bowl
Baker and Crestview meet on the football field for just the fourth time in more than 40 years Friday night in the second rendition of the Bulletin Bowl at Jack Foster Stadium.
Game time is 7 p.m.
The Dawgs and Gators squared off for the first time last year for the first time since 2002 with Crestview taking the 35-0 win.
The Class 4A Bulldogs are not overlooking the 1A Gators.
“Last year they showed us you don’t underestimate anybody,” Bulldog offensive tackle Dennis Kellar said. “They had pretty good speed and they hung with us all four quarters endurance wise. It’s going to be a good game.
“Everybody is going to be there. All of Baker is going to be there. All of Crestview is going to be there.”
Baker’s Christian Mainor dreams of the Gators pulling an upset.
“Many people are not going to give us a chance and there’s going to be a lot of doubters out there,” he said. “But there’s nothing better I like to do than to prove doubters wrong and that’s what I’m going to try to do. It’s hard when they have people resting on the sidelines and you have people going both ways, so we are going to have to be in pretty good shape next week.
“They are a good team and we are just going to have to fight. I think we’ve proven that we are a better team this year and we are ready to play.”
Gator coach Bob Kellogg sees the game as the ultimate David vs. Goliath.
“There is no question it is David and Goliath multiplied a million times” he said. “We will have our hands full. Our kids will get after them and it will be exciting for the north end.
“Our kids are excited. They like playing them even though it was tough last year. They are coming off this win (against Jay) and they are going to be confident when we go over there.”
Crestview running back Jerry Siler learned last year that the Gators won’t back down.
“They won’t quit,” Siler said. “They will not quit. They’ll keep coming.
“We are trying to win like always. They are going to give us some competition but we can handle it. It’s a real important game for us because it’s not right for them to come to our house and win.”
Coming off a win over Jay in the Kickoff Classic, Baker’s Vada Moore was ready to see how the Gators will stack up against the Bulldogs.
“We’ll take them on,” he said. “We are going to do the best we can. We are just going to come out and execute.
“We came out and executed tonight and the scoreboard shows it. We are just going to go over to Jack Foster and do the best that we can.”
“Crestview senior Justin Mitchell is looking forward to squaring off against Baker one last time.
“I’m really excited because this is my last year to play them,” he said. “It has been a big rival even though we hadn’t played them in a while.
“It’s always great to have the bragging rights because it will be with you for a lifetime.”
Although the odds seemed stacked against his team, Kellogg is ready to see how things will play out.
“You never know what will happen on a Friday night,” he said. “We are going to show up.”
