BAKER — It was another game with growing pains for Baker School's young girls basketball team.

But Gator Coach James Kerrell tried to find some positives in Friday's loss to District 3-1A opponent Chipley.

"The first two minutes of the first quarter we came out and we were a little dead," he said. "But we woke up and made a little run. We showed some life.

"We were hitting buckets and running the offense and playing good defense. We were doing what we needed to do to stay in the ball game."

The Gators spotted the Tigers a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter before battling back late in the period.

Jessica Black scored five points and Natalie Booker added four points as Baker closed the Chipley to 14-9 at the end of the first period in Friday's game.

The Gators (4-13) only managed eight points the rest of the way as Chipley rolled to a 70-17 win. The final 12 minutes of the game was played with a running clock.
