BAKER — Given time, Baker School's young girls basketball team could compete for district honors, but that’s probably somewhere down the road.

Baker’s youth particularly showed Thursday night as the Royals rolled to a 55-28 win. The Gators started two seniors, a freshman and two eighth-graders as they hosted rival Jay in a District 3-1A game.

The Royals got off to a fast 9-3 lead four minutes into the game behind the play of Taylor Moore, who scored all of her five points in that span.

Baker’s only points came from Lily Phillips.

The Royals pushed the lead to 15-3 before eighth-grader Jessie Black broke the Gator scoring slump with 1:44 left in the first quarter. Natalie Booker scored the Gators' final points of the first period with 1:15 on the clock.

The Royals led 20-7 at the start of the second quarter.

Rachele Rogers then went to work for the Gators, scoring all seven of her points in the period as Baker outscored Jay 10-6 and to cut the Royal lead to 26-17 at the half.
