Plenty to celebrate for Hoboes

A pair of free throws by Rocky’s Casey Ponder tied the game at 2-2. The teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter, but as the horn sounded to end the period Ponder hit a long 3-pointer to put the Knights in front 10-9.

Even without their big man, Strickland, on the floor, the Hoboes had plenty of weapons that could score. The two main weapons in Laurel Hill’s arsenal were brothers Tommy and Tamaria Calloway.

Tamaria and Smith each scored four points in the first quarter. But in the second quarter Tamaria would team with Tommy to give the Hoboes the boost they needed.

Thirteen seconds into the second quarter Tamaria scored a basket to put Laurel Hill in front 11-10. A short time later Tommy hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 14-10.

All totaled the Calloways scored 11 of Laurel Hill’s 18 points in the second quarter.

But it wasn’t just the Calloway brothers pressuring the Knights. Garrett Alford, Tanner McQuaig and Matthew Lewellyn all scored in the second quarter as well forcing the Knights to guard everyone on the floor.

A Tamaria Calloway score late in the second quarter finished off a strong period for the Hoboes as they led 27-20 at the half.
