LAUREL HILL — Nothing seemed to go right for the Laurel Hill School baseball team Thursday as the Hoboes hosted Ponce de Leon in a District 1-1A game.

The Hobo offense struggled with just two hits. And Laurel Hill starting pitcher Bryson Cooper failed to make it out of the second inning giving up six runs on three hits and five walks. Jace Davis, who replaced Cooper on the mound, also walked five batters and he hit a batter.

Throw in four Hobo errors and it amounts to an 11-1 Pirate win.

The game was called at the end of six innings on the 10-run rule.

Laurel Hill Coach Ronnie Smith tried to find something positive as the Hoboes fell to 0-6 on the season.

“Jace Davis came in there and battled,” Smith said.

By the time Davis replaced Cooper on the mound with two outs in the second inning Ponce de Leon had scored six runs.
