BAKER — Veteran Baker School softball Coach John Carlisle will be the first person to tell you four weeks does not a season make.

“We are nine games into it,” he said. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

“I still believe in this team. I believe in the girls that we have. I believe in the talent these girls have.”

Carlisle’s words came Friday after the Gators lost to Jay 7-0 in a District 3-1A game.

“We’ll finish it (the season) and get things right,” he said. “It’s necessarily what we are doing right now. Hopefully we will be peaking at tournament time.”

The Royals scored all the runs they would need in the second inning when Jay sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on just two hits.

Jay’s rally was helped by three walks and a hit batter from Baker pitcher Allison Newell. Michaela Stewart and Sydney Lowery had the only two hits for the Royals.
