    TALLAHASSEE — It wasn’t the size the dogs in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dogs on Tuesday when Crestview’s boys basketball team traveled to Lincoln for the Region 1-7A semifinal game. The Bulldogs might not have measured up to the Trojans on the tale of the tape giving up two or more inches at almost every position on the floor. But the tape can’t measure heart and Crestview is a team with plenty of heart. Trailing by six points at the start of the second half the Bulldogs came back to take a 58-56 win. READ MORE

    CRESTVIEW — A rematch of last year’s boys basketball Region 1-7A semifinal game is on tap Tuesday when Crestview travels to Tallahassee to take on Lincoln. The Bulldog punched their ticket a second straight Sweet 16 on Thursday with a 58-39 win over Chiles. READ MORE

    LAUREL HILL — The distance from Laurel Hill to Brewton, Ala., home of Jefferson Davis Community College, is about 50 miles. Laurel Hill School volleyball player Bridget Zessin will soon become familiar with Brewton and Jeff Davis Community as she signed a volleyball scholarship to play for the Warhawks on Thursday. The similarities of Brewton and the college to Laurel Hill were a major selling point for Zessin. READ MORE

    OKALOOSA ISLAND — Sports, to Kathy Combest, have always been about family. With that in mind it should come as no surprise that Combest was surrounded by family and a family of friends Wednesday when she was inducted into the All Sports Association Hall of Fame at the Past Presidents’ Hall of Fame Luncheon. Long before coaching her first volleyball match or girls basketball game at Baker School or Crestview High School sports was a family affair for Combest. READ MORE

    CRESTVIEW — Dreams of a state championship will have to wait another year for Crestview High School’s girls basketball team. On a chilly Tuesday night in February the Bulldogs were ice cold shooting the ball in the Region 1-7A semifinals against Okaloosa County rival Niceville. Crestview’s season ended with a 48-43 loss to the Eagles. The first quarter was nip and tuck with Niceville’s Jessie Day scoring the game’s first basket. Dionjenae Hendrix responded with a basket for Crestview (18-10) and was fouled on the play. READ MORE

  • Bulldogs eye plans for sand volleyball courts

    CRESTVIEW — A patch of grass just west of Crestview High School's tennis courts could soon field another kind of court. If all goes well, sand (beach) volleyball could be coming to Crestview as early as this spring. The National Collegiate Athletic Association approved sand volleyball as a Division I sport last October. NCAA Divisions II and III approved the sport last month. Sand volleyball is the NCAA’s 90th sanctioned championship sport. READ MORE

    NICEVILLE — All the elements were in place for a shootout in the District 1-7A boys basketball tournament championship game Saturday night. Rabid fan bases for Crestview High School and host Niceville filled the Niceville High School gym. And the Okaloosa County rivals put on a show that proved that high school’s basketball February Frenzy can be every bit as exciting as college basketball’s March Madness. READ MORE

    NICEVILLE — Crestview High School boys basketball Coach Greg Watson has preached about finishing a game to the Bulldogs all season. He continued to stress a strong finish at halftime of Friday’s District 1-7A tournament semifinal game with the the Bulldogs up by 15 points on Tate. READ MORE

    CRESTVIEW — It will be a familiar song with a new verse Tuesday when Crestview High School’s girls basketball team hosts Niceville in the Region 1-7A semifinals. The game will be the fourth between the Bulldogs and Eagles this season. Getting to Tuesday’s game was no easy task for Crestview as at times the deck seemed stacked against the Bulldogs as they hosted Leon in Thursday’s region quarterfinals. When the final card was played the Bulldogs could take a deep breath and enjoy a 54-47 win. READ MORE
