PANAMA CITY — Visiting Baker controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and North Bay Haven couldn’t match the Gators’ explosiveness on offense, in a 42-0 victory for Baker in a non-district football game at Pete Edwards Field.

Baker tailback D.J. Thomas carried the ball 15 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns, all of that production in the first two quarters of play. Gator quarterback Jon Beck passed for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

The Gators (6-0) entered the game averaging 45 points per contest, and they scored touchdowns the first five times they touched the ball.

North Bay Haven’s efforts to move the ball via the pass and run were met with resistance by the Gators’ fleet-footed defense. Baker’s defensive line limited the Buccaneers (2-3) to 83 total yards, and the unit consistently pressured Bucs quarterback David Smith all game long.

The rout began on Baker’s first drive as the Gators marched 80 yards in five plays, capping the possession with Thomas’ 11-yard touchdown run. After a North Bay Haven punt, Baker needed nine plays to cover 77 yards, boosting its lead to 14-0 when Kodi Moen hauled in Beck’s 41-yard touchdown pass with 5½ minutes left in the opening quarter.
