CRESTVIEW — Two girls basketball teams in rebuilding mode, Choctawhatchee and Crestview, squared off in their season opener at the Crestview High School gym Tuesday night.

At night's end it looked as if the Indians, who played for the Class 6A championship last season, are a little further along than the Bulldogs.

Powered by senior guard Brittany Washington's 16 points the Indians rolled to a 49-34 win over the Bulldogs.

The Indians (1-0) jumped to a quick 7-0 lead to open the game and never looked back.

Choctaw was up 11-2 at the end of the first quarter as five different players scored.

Gabrielle Brown opened the scoring with a 3-pointer for the Indians on what was her only basket of the night.

Brown's score was followed by a free throw from Shavonna Spaw. A basket by Spaw and a free throw by Washington.
