Bulldogs slip and slide to rainy win

The Bulldogs added two more runs before the inning was over. Austin Armstrong and Devin Wimmer walked. Corbin Carroll, running for Armstrong, scored on a passed ball. Wimmer scored on a Willis single.

With two out and two Bulldogs on base, it looked as if the umpires were finally ready to call the game due to the field that was, for all practical purposes, unplayable due to the continual steady rain.

After a short discussion with the coaches, the umpires decide to let the game to continue. If the game had been called, the score would have reverted back to what it was before Crestview came to bat in the seventh thus wiping the five runs off the board.

Navarre managed to score two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Corey Armstrong pushed through the nasty conditions to close out the complete game win.

“It was a heck of a win,” Tim Gillis said. “I’m real proud of these guys hanging in there and those tough conditions.

“They fought and battled and clawed and they hung in there and got the job done.”
