CRESTVIEW — Bulldog track and field programs will receive additional funding following Crestview High School and Gulf Power's 15th Annual Bass Tournament.

Whoever nabs the largest fish during the March 8 catch-and-release event will win a $1,250 grand prize. Other participants can win numerous items including fishing lures, event organizers said.

Bass Pro Shops in Destin, Captain Dan Pike of Inshore Angler and Shaw Grigsby Jr. of Bass Elite Pro donated the prizes, according to an event flyer.

CHS coach and event organizer Ernie Martin said he appreciates those who help put the tournament together.

"This is a community effort," he said. "Each year this event gets bigger and bigger."

It attracts fishing enthusiasts beyond Okaloosa County's borders, according to Sid Braunstien, who helped Martin start the event 15 years ago.

"We have people from White City (Florida) to Alabama who attend the tournament," he said.
