BAKER — An outmanned Class 6A Escambia High School volleyball team was no match for Class 1A Baker on Monday as two schools with Gator mascots squared did battle.

The home team Gators came out playing Baker volleyball on the way to a 3-0 sweep of Escambia by scores of 25-7, 25-9, 25-9.

To say that Baker made short work of Escambia wouldn’t be an exaggeration as the match only took 45 minutes.

Baker Coach Tommiko Parks was happy with what she saw from her team.

“They came out and played strong,” she said. “They executed even on the little things. The important thing this time of year is that you are concentrating on doing the small things that are the very fundamental things.

“I’m proud of the way they came out. They came out and did the things we need to do to play Baker volleyball.”

Baker (15-4) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set behind the serve of Jordan Linzy. Linzy kept the Escambia defense scattering as she moved the ball around from one serve to the next.
