The Okaloosa Rollers (OKR) are bringing fast-paced flat track action to Crestview, hosting bouts at Davidson Middle School during the team's inaugural season.

The season opener takes place Feb. 11. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Because the events are family friendly, children 10 and younger will be admitted for free.

Davidson Middle School, at 6261 Old Bethel Road, boasts seating for more than 500 and fans will have the option to experience “suicide” seating near the track, with bleacher seating nearby.  At the venue, fans will find a variety of food, beverages and merchandise available for purchase.  Because the Okaloosa Rollers is founded on the principle of giving back to the local community, all concession profits will benefit Davidson Middle School’s extracurricular programs.

Additionally, a portion of each ticket sold will benefit the league’s 2012 Relay for Life team.

The season dates for 2012 are Feb. 11, March 3, July 14 and Aug. 4. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and games will start at 6:30 p.m.  The season opener on Feb. 11 will feature a bout between Crestview’s Okaloosa Rollers and Alabama's Huntsville Rolling Arsenal of Derby RAD Girls.

As a relatively new sport following its resurgence in the late 1990s, roller derby has evolved from season to season, becoming more competitive and athletic as its skaters hone their skills and develop new strategies.

Since organizing in 2010, the Okaloosa Rollers have grown into an established league.  OKR is one of the 1,184 amateur roller derby leagues worldwide.  For more information about the Okaloosa Rollers, or to buy tickets, visit www.okrollers.com.
