Lady Dawgs fall to Mosley 74-73 (with photo gallery)

CRESTVIEW – A feel-good night turned feel bad for the Crestview girls basketball team when Mosley’s Tasha Trazka hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left in the game to give the Dolphins a 74-73 come-from-behind win.

Things seemed to be going well for Crestview as the clock ticked under a minute in the District 2-4A game with the Bulldogs holding 72-63 lead.

But Octavia Langston took over in the final 60 seconds scoring eight of the 11 points for the Dolphins as they went on an 11-1 run to pull out the win.

Langston finished the night with a game-high 24 points.

In their most impressive offensive showing of the year the Bulldogs (6-10, 2-4) had five different players score in the first quarter as they jumped to a 15-11 lead.

Monique Thurman and Danica Applewhite had four points each and Niesha Butler, who led the team in scoring, had three points in the first period.

Langston, who scored six points for the Dolphins in the first quarter, was a non-factor in the second period as she sat on the bench with foul trouble.

Langston’s foul trouble forced Mosley to find another scoring threat and Alexis Ware answered the call hitting four 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Dolphins tied the game at 29-29 at the half.

Butler took over in the third quarter scoring 10 points. Holly Stanford added a pair of 3-pointers and Autumn Rogers added three points to give Crestview a 50-45 lead heading into the final period.

Things started falling apart for the Bulldogs when Rogers fouled out with 2:05 left in the fourth quarter.

Rogers finished the game with 18 points and when she went to the bench the Bulldogs lost their scoring compliment for Butler.

A Stanford 3-pointer and a free throw by Candice Green were the only points Crestview scored after Rogers fouled out and the Dolphins rallied for the win.
