UPCOMING: A ride for Ryan. Poker run to raise funds in memory of local couple's son

Sherry Richardson doesn’t want any other family to go through what her family has endured.
That’s why she encourages the community to turn out for the second Ryan Richardson Memorial American Legion Post 75 Poker Run on Saturday.
Sherry’s son Ryan died at age 5 in 2005, a victim of Niemann-Pick Disease, a fatal metabolic disorder.
“Children deserve a life, and this disease does not allow them to have that,” said Sherry, now a nurse at North Okaloosa Medical Center. “If they love children, if they can come out and support the research being done, it is really going to help a lot of people.”
“Help us find a cure so no one else will lose their child to this terrible disease,” is the motto of Saturday’s event. Proceeds will go to the National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation.
“The response has been overwhelming,” said Dave Richardson, Ryan’s grandfather and the contact person for Saturday’s ride. He said dozens of area businesses have signed up to support the ride.
