Education: Walker holds first GEO-Shapes Fair

Fourth-graders at Walker Elementary School recently participated in an exciting math event.

They were asked to find household items and other “junk” in various geometric shapes (cones, cylinders, cubes, pyramids, spheres) and reuse them to create a 3-D project.

The projects ranged from models of boats, cities and machines, to new inventions and even pets.

The GEO-Shapes Fair was the idea of North Okaloosa County’s Gifted Center teacher, Laura Pink. The Gifted Center is located at Walker.

Awards were given for the most aesthetic, most creative and most geometric shapes, as well as awards for the most realistic, most inventive and most unusual use of materials.
