HUBBUB: Residents speak out on local topics

Here is a sampling of what people had to say about recent north Okaloosa County news topics. Comments were collected from the crestviewbulletin.com Web site.

TOPIC: The Crestview Police Department participation in the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign continues to draw comments.

Well I hate to say it but it is usually cheaper when someone dies in the accident than when a long hospital stay is required and they have no insurance.

Quit whining and wear your seatbelt. It is unbelievable that you people are whining over something that saves lives. …I have been saved by a seatbelt after rolling a car. The car was totaled, I had glass in my mouth and on my face from the windshield, but no other injuries. What is the big deal about wearing a seatbelt?

*

I agree, I think people who don’t wear a seatbelt or a motorcycle helmet are asking to die. Seriously, what is the big deal? Good on them for enforcing it, however I do agree that warnings should be given out first.

*

Sounds like this newspaper article is the warning you are asking for! Everyone has been warned that seat belt usage is required by law. If you get caught not wearing a seat belt, you get ticketed. Remember, driving is a privilege, not a right. If you are going to use this privilege, you need to obey the rules of the road that go along with it. If you don’t want to do that, then don’t drive a car or pay the fine when you get caught!

This afternoon there were MEGA cops out with cars pulled over. I’ve never seen anything like that in this town from La Rumba to Publix and I am intimidated to be out!

*

Seriously, to say you’re intimidated is ridiculous. If you are wearing your seat belt and aren’t doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. In fact you have even LESS to worry about because the roads are safer with them out in force enforcing the traffic laws. You said they were out in full force from La Rumba to Publix. In case you haven’t noticed that is the main area where the traffic crashes occur in this town. Good job CPD!

TOPIC: A local 2010 Census official visiting the Crestview Public Library explains the benefits of completing the census form and returning it.

If it means jobs and roads and other benefits and is as easy as this story says I guess I will do it this year. But I don’t want no “revenooers” knocking on my door!

*

I don’t care if they don’t count my worthless brother-in-law. We try to ignore him anyway.

TOPIC: Winter storm Xynthia lashes Noirmoutier, Crestview’s French sister city.

I'm glad none of our friends were injured. Wish I could go there with the Crestview group heading over this spring.
