Bust nets three-time drug trafficker
The Crestview Police Department Street Crimes Unit served a search warrant at 215 Field Ave. yesterday, arresting a suspect on drug-related charges.
Joe Stevens was arrested without incident and charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. More than $2,000 in cash was recovered during the bust.
According to unit commander Lt. Joseph Floyd, this was the third time his team arrested Stevens since February, each time on “the exact same charges.”
Floyd said that every time the unit has arrested Stevens, “we always recover drugs, we always recover a large amount of U.S. currency, and he’s always continuously back out on the streets.”
Floyd acknowledged that the justice system often works more slowly than his officers, but expressed frustration that permitting repeat offenders such as Stevens back out on the streets “poses a credible threat to officers and to citizens.
“Everybody knows when you have drugs you have violence and you have weapons,” Floyd said.
