Man charged in family killing was drowning in debt

WELLINGTON, Fla. (AP) — Documents show that a man charged with gunning down his wife and twin sons in Palm Beach County was afraid that he was being investigated by the FBI for mortgage fraud.

Newly released evidence show that Neal Jacobson was drowning in debt and depression, and thought of killing his family so his twin sons wouldn’t be left destitute or taken away.

Jacobson told investigators that his wife pleaded for her life and the boys’ lives before they were shot. He said he told her “they all had to go” and intended to kill himself.

Jacobson is charged with three counts of first degree murder with a firearm. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against the 49-year-old failed mortgage broker.

Authorities found the bodies on Jan. 23 in the family’s home in a gated community in Wellington.
