Some private wells test positive for arsenic

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Some private waters well in a Gulf coast county have tested positive for arsenic.

Residents in north Pinellas County are being urged to test their wells.

While conducting routine tests of local private water wells, health officials found above average traces of arsenic in wells throughout Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs and north Clearwater.

Officials say there haven’t been any recent reports of arsenic-related illnesses in the county.

People who find high levels of arsenic in their wells should either close it and connect to a public water supply, or install a filter that will trap the arsenic.
