Man shot after pointing gun at SWAT deputies

DELTONA, Fla. (AP) — Volusia County officials say a man was shot after pointing a gun at deputies.

Deputies responded to a 911 call of a domestic dispute at a Deltona home late Wednesday after 48-year-old Clayton Gonsalves shot his wife in the arm.

When deputies arrived to the scene they found Gonsalves in the backyard with a gun, which he used to fire a shot into the air. A SWAT team and crisis negotiators were then called to the scene.

Gonsalves pointed his gun at the deputies, who opened fire. Authorities say he denied warnings to drop his gun before the shooting.

Gonsalves was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The shooting remains under investigation.
