Toddler unattended by busy road; woman charged with neglect
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — A Clearwater woman was charged with child neglect after police say she left a toddler unattended next to a busy road at night.
Clearwater police say 26-year-old Jamie Michelle Campbell was high on illegally obtained prescription painkillers Tuesday night when she left the 2-year-old girl. Witnesses found the child along a road wearing a T-shirt and sweater but no pants and called police. The temperature was 54 degrees, and the child was suffering from exposure.
Besides child neglect, Campbell was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of violating her probation and one count of tampering with evidence.
Police did not identify the child or her relationship to Campbell.
